  • Spelthorne Local Plan - Preferred Options Consultation: Policies and Site Allocations Open

The first consultation on the Local Plan was held last year and asked the public to consider options for how Spelthorne will meet its need for housing, gypsy and traveller pitches, employment sites and other uses. This stage sets out draft policies for the new plan and proposed sites across the Borough to be allocated for development. The selection of sites follows the preferred strategy, to maximise building on land in urban areas such as town centres, particularly Staines-upon-Thames, and to consider releasing some ‘weakly performing’ Green Belt for development. This option will enable the protection of the Borough’s most important green spaces.

    Open from 05 Nov 2019 to 21 Jan 2020

  • Open Space Assessment - questionnaire Closed

Spelthorne Borough Council is in the process of producing an Open Space Assessment. Open space is defined in the NPPF as: All open space of public value, including not just land, but also areas of water (such as rivers, canals, lakes and reservoirs) which offer important opportunities for sport and recreation and can act as a visual amenity. Open spaces and recreation areas provide a vital function as part of the network of green infrastructure supporting town and other urban areas to make them attractive, provide a positive contribution to biodiversity and nature conservation and for use by local communities. Through this, such spaces help to aid healthy lifestyles and play a role in general well-being for the Borough’s residents and other users. The Assessment involves assessing the quality and quantity of open spaces in the Borough and identifying any deficiencies. An important part of this assessment process is to understand local use and need using this questionnaire.
